Fuller Park - 2801 N Williams

Fuller Park is the second oldest park in Denver. The park was donated on November 8th, 1879, by Horace J. Fuller.

Madam CJ Walker Park - 1900 E 30th St

Madam CJ Walker was an African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political and social activist. Walker made her fortune by developing and marketing a line of cosmetics and hair care products for black women through the business she founded, Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company. Madam CJ Walker lived in Denver and the park contains educational exhibits.

Frederick Douglass (Jr.) Park - 3000 Franklin

Raised in Rochester, NY, Frederick Douglass, Jr. early adult years were spent recruiting Black troops to fight for the Union in the Civil War. Following the war, he and his brother Lewis moved to Denver and started the city’s first school for Black kids. They also opened a mortuary in Five Points and a restaurant on California St. The Douglass’ actively opposed Colorado statehood until all men were granted the right to vote.

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams Park - 3000 Lafayette

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams was a pioneer surgeon who in 1893 performed the first open-heart surgery. In 1891 he founded the Provident Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, the oldest freestanding African-American owned hospital in the United States. Dr. Williams was the only African American in a group of 100 charter members of the American College of Surgeons in 1913. He co-founded and became the first vice-president of the National Medical Association.

George Morrison Park - 1400 E Martin Luther King Blvd

George Morrison Sr., was an early pioneer in jazz music who lived in Denver. Morrison made recordings for Columbia Records, did a command performance for the King and Queen of England with his orchestra and performed with Duke Ellington and Count Basie as just a few of his notable achievements. He also taught violin in his Whittier home. George Morrison, Sr. was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame 2023.
