At our Community Meeting on Saturday, November 15th, we will consider and discuss directions for our neighborhood, our city, and our nation.

  1. We will vote for members of the board of the Whittier Neighborhood Association. There are a few open positions, there are a few returning board members, and, if you are interested in expanding the work of the board with your project, we can vote on that.

    • Our goal is to build community in the neighborhood. One idea that is out there is to hold a summer concert that is made up of Whittier Neighborhood musicians. But we need someone to organize such a thing. What’s your idea?

    • For more info, please email president@whittierneighborhood.org.We will be glad to set up a time to meet.

  2. We will hear from council-member Darrell Watson. Darrell has proved to be responsive to our concerns and get things done. He can also tell us about whatever interests us about the city government.

  3. We will meet Malet Kiros, a candidate for Congress. There will be questions and answers. Where do we want to go as a country? Personally, I have found that meeting candidates before they are elected is most effective to being heard. (All other known candidates were invited and at this time have not responded.)

We meet every other month on a Saturday morning, most often at the Ford-Warren Library, 2825 High St, Denver, CO 80205. We will have a time for information/interaction with people from the city government, elected representatives, police, relevant not-for-profits, etc. We will make time for folks to talk about neighborhood joys and neighborhood concerns. Join to meet new people and make connections. Coffee and bagels are served.

Whittier Community Meeting - Board Elections Edition

  • Denver Public Library: Ford Warren Branch Library (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This meeting will be a little different as we will be electing leadership for the Whittier Neighborhood Association. All residents of the neighborhood may attend this meeting and vote. Any resident may take an office. The only offices that must be filled are the officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The other offices (for example, Fundraising) are determined by the board as it listens to the concerns and needs of the neighborhood.

So, if you or someone you know would like to do a project in the neighborhood and that area of concern is not listed as one of the jobs, you can bring your idea to the board and the board could open up a new area for the board to work. On the other hand, if you would like to work on a current concern, we are glad to form groups with the relevant board member as an organizer. You don’t have to be on the board to make an impact in the neighborhood!

At our elections on the 11th, the board will nominate the following people to continue in the work they have been doing: Danny Havelick for Vice-President, Scott Holder for Secretary, Gerald Hamel for Fundraising, Karlyn Russell for Communications, and Marcus Owens for Safety/Zoning. Nominations for these offices will be taken from the floor. Others who are interested in joining the board in another capacity, please see Jeff Neuman-Lee and he will gladly meet with you.

WNA Board of Directors terms.

Jeff Neuman-Lee President 2024

Danny Havelick Vice-President 2023

Scott Holder Secretary 2023

Jeanne Paradise Treasurer 2024

Gerald Hamel Fundraising 2023

Natasha Garfield Education 2024

Diane Page Family 2024

Karlyn Russell Communications 2023
